Further down the winding road of the Black River Gorges National Park you reach a local restaurant with a breathtaking view over the coastline. Enjoy a taste of Mauritian Heritage with a visit at Les Aubineaux – a colonial mansion built in 1872. Drive along tea fields to Bois Cheri Tea Factory to discover the secrets of tea before proceeding to the chalet for a traditional tea break. Lunch is served at the Plantation house of Saint Aubin, dated 1819. Visit an anthurium greenhouse with Mauritian vanilla growing among the distinctive blooms. The Domaine has its own rum distillery – so rum and sugar tasting is a must. Its then on to discover the exotic La Vanille Reserve des Mascareignes where Nile crocodiles, geckos, monkeys & giant Aldabra tortoises and an insectarium are found among luxuriant tropical vegetation.

From Pointe Jérôme on the south-east coast, a boat will take you to the 25-hectare nature reserve of Île-aux-Aigrettes. The trip continues to Blue Bay and the beautiful white sand beaches of Île des Deux Cocos. After refreshments, visit the Follies, which, built 100 years ago by British Governor Sir Hesketh Bell, blends British and Moorish architecture with Creole style. Then, discover the marine environment by snorkelling or on a glass-bottom boat trip in the protected Marine Park of Blue Bay. After lunch, the island is all yours to explore at leisure.
